Elevated Busking

Last weekend I saw this street performer singing his heart out from atop the underground parking stairway at the intersection of York Street and University Avenue. You gotta get a gimmick!

Today’s PhotoWalk

It was a beautiful day today, so naturally I went for a photowalk with my trusty camera. I wandered down to the Esplanade then back, capturing the city on a Saturday afternoon. Here’s a few shots from earlier today:

Day Trip To Wards Island

As part of my stay-cation this week I took a day trip across the lake to the Toronto Islands – Wards Island to be exact. For some time I’ve wanted to photograph the quirky little cottages in all their splendour. When I arrived I was not disappointed; there was plenty to work with. Here are a few of today’s shots:

Halloween On Church Street: A Look Back

Yet again, COVID-19 has squatted over something near and dear to my little heart and taken a huge dump: No Halloween street party on Church Street this year – BOO, HISS!!! To add insult to injury, Halloween falls on a Saturday night this year <ggrrrrr…> So, in lieu of the real thing this Halloween – as with our cancelled Pride Weekend earlier this year – I now present to you…

Fall Leaves

It’s that time again: Fall – my favourite season! The weather is cooler and the evenings are crisp. It’s also the most colourful season with the trees displaying those gorgeous shades of red, yellow and orange. I made a few photo expeditions around the city this Fall to capture some of the changing leaves; here’s a small sampling of what I found: High Park Allan Gardens Cabbagetown Maitland Place Ahhhhh,…

Stockyards Art

No backstory here – I was simply intrigued by this sculpture we discovered on a visit to The Stockyards Village (St. Clair & Weston Road):

Through The Glass

I took this casual shot with my iPhone while we were waiting to go into a concert at Roy Thomson Hall. I love how the CN Tower is framed by the glass panes and surrounding buildings:

Bloor-Yorkville Icefest 2019

It had been four years since I’d photographed the annual Bloor-Yorkville Icefest. The weather finally cooperated this year and gave us below freezing temperatures which preserved the beautiful sculptures of the ice artists (unlike the last couple of years, when “Icefest” became more like “Dripfest” due to very warm temperatures). It didn’t hurt that the organizers finally moved the event to early February this year instead of the customary late…

Christmas Windows

I’d been meaning to capture The Bay’s Christmas window displays at night for quite a while now so I took a little spin down to Yonge and Queen last night to see this year’s offerings. The windows are quite good this year but, sadly, not nearly as extensive as they were prior to the merger of Saks Fifth Avenue in the same building. Prior to Saks, the Christmas windows continued…

Land’s End, U.K.

Land’s End is literally the end of the land in England, the very south-west tip. There is no more land west of here until you hit Newfoundland. The scenery here is quite dramatic, to say the least. I took these shots on September 28, 2018, during my photo tour of Cornwall in the U.K.:

An Old Safe

I was running some errands downtown last weekend and had to make a stop in 80 Spadina Avenue (above King St.). This building at one point in time was an old Toronto warehouse which has been converted into artist spaces, studios and photo reproduction companies, among other things. I spotted an old-fashioned, decommissioned safe in the building’s hallway and found it interesting; I have a penchant for historic items such as this. I love…

A Danforth Photowalk

On August 18th of this year I took a photowalk along Danforth Avenue. I started at Broadview Ave. and finished at Greenwood Ave., at which point I crossed the street and returned to Broadview, snapping all the way. Here’s a few shots from that day:

Colours

I like this shot. There’s something interesting about the colours, shades and textures of the dresses in the picture. I captured this at the Cabbagetown Festival this past September:

Prairie Sunrise

This is such a peaceful shot. I captured this sunrise image while travelling southbound along Highway 2 in Alberta, en route to the Calgary International Airport to catch my plane back to Toronto: I had an early flight out from Calgary that morning which meant, naturally, an early departure. Even though it was about 8:00AM when I took this shot, it still felt awfully early to me. The sun rises…

Yorkville Mini-Photo Walk

It was a rainy, wet, cold and generally miserable day yesterday. During my usual Saturday errand-running I took a few shots with my phone of the journey home via Yorkville and Avenue Road: … And, I saw these little guys in the window of Galerie de Bellefeuille. Very, very cute. I passed the Gardiner Museum near Queen’s Park as the sun was going down…

Lights At Pearson

Earlier this year I headed to the UK for a photo tour of Cornwall (which was amazing, but that’s another story for another time). I had a lot of time to kill prior to my flight’s departure at Toronto’s Pearson International, so I walked around the terminal a bit. I saw these cool lights which caught my eye due to their dramatic shapes:
